The role of nutrition, sports psychology, and physiotherapy in optimizing performance of karate athletes: A narrative review
Authors
T Yangaiah, Mainak Sur
Abstract
This narrative review explores the combined roles of nutrition, sports
psychology, and physiotherapy in enhancing the performance, recovery, and
long-term health of karate athletes. The review discusses evidence-based
nutritional strategies to support energy availability, body composition,
hydration, and recovery; psychological interventions to improve motivation,
confidence, focus, stress management, and competitive performance; and
physiotherapy approaches for injury prevention, rehabilitation, movement
optimization, flexibility, strength, balance, neuromuscular control, and
return-to-sport. By integrating these three disciplines within a
multidisciplinary athlete support model, the review highlights how holistic
management can optimize performance, reduce injury risk, accelerate recovery,
and promote sustained success in both kata and kumite athletes.
